Project Lifecycle Reviews

Overview

Dropbox earned $2.251B in the last 12 months, growing by 10.68% YoY. The project lifecycle review is the biggest framework that allowed them to continue scaling projects after all these years.

For each phase of a project’s lifecycle, you ask a question:

Phase 0 — What is the problem we’re solving? Why is it worth solving? (Validation) Anyone can propose Phase 0 pitches and schedule it with product leaders.

Phase 1 — How are we going to solve that problem? (Tech specs)An approved Phase 0 idea is addressed by engineers and designers to create multiple approaches.

Phase 2 — What does our solution look like (full product specs)? Finally, the full details of the product are reviewed.

3 things should happen when the phases are implemented correctly:
1. The team stops focusing on minute details before the time is right, aligning on the current phase
2. Stakeholders become aligned on the solution early in development
3. It's so lightweight that other product teams can easily adopt the solution
