Overview

PURSUIT was invented by Maryanna Quigless, Director of Product Management at Meta. At its best, PURSUIT gets everyone on the same page about thinking through product questions.

The acronym stands for:
1. Problem: Develop clear people problems (see 3 Question Approach)
2. Users: Use a prioritization criteria to filter for user profiles that truly matters to your product.
3. Rationale: Know the ‘why’ by analyzing existing data that justifies the problem space.
4. Solution: A good solution is not one that is bulletproof, but one that can accept faults. A build-and-test mentality is crucial to continually pivot towards a better solution every iteration.
5. Uncertainties: Be aware of the risk space — market risk, technical risk, competition risk, user risk, etc.
6. Insight: Conduct plenty of product tests to build confidence in your solution.
7. Test Metrics: Identify the metrics that represent success — and understand why it’s important. Does it… relate to the company’s vision? indicate product adoption success?

Product teams that use PURSUIT can converse more effectively, identify additional areas to consider, and construct better reasoning behind product decisions.
